So let’s relive the ones that hit different. The nights that stopped time.
Istanbul 2005: The Greatest Comeback Ever Told

Liverpool vs AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final is the benchmark for every “never give up” speech in football history. Three-nil down at half time against one of the greatest club sides ever assembled. Completely, utterly dead.

Going into the second leg 4–0 down from the first leg. At home. Against PSG. Needing to score four without reply just to force extra time.
Nobody believed it was possible. PSG scored early in the second leg to make it effectively 5–0 on aggregate. The dream looked dead.

Ajax in 2019: The Season Everyone Fell in Love With
Not one single match (even though you could maybe say the Real Madrid game at Santiago Bernabéu) — but a run that captured the imagination of the whole football world. A young, fearless Ajax side knocking out Real Madrid, then Juventus, then pushing Spurs to the absolute limit in the semis.
Ziyech, De Ligt, De Jong, Van de Beek — most of them teenagers or early twenties — playing the kind of fluid, confident football that made you genuinely believe a fairytale was unfolding.

Zidane’s Volley: The Goal That Needs No Context
Glasgow, 2002. Hampden Park. Real Madrid vs Bayer Leverkusen.
Roberto Carlos whips in a cross from the left. It’s dropping over Zidane’s left foot. He doesn’t hesitate. He volleys it first time into the top corner with the kind of technique that makes professional footballers stop and stare.
You’ve seen it a hundred times. It still doesn’t look real. It’s not the most dramatic night on this list, but that goal alone earns its place in any Champions League conversation forever.
